Meteorologists urge to take precaution against flood risk from Friday

     

Kathmandu: The Department of Water and Meteorology has said that the flow of water in rivers across the country will increase in the next four days.

According to senior meteorologist Dr Archana Shrestha, spokesperson of the department, heavy rains are expected in most places as the monsoon is active. The flow of water in most of the rivers will cross the alert level and reach the danger level from July 11 to 12.

According to the department, water flow in Kankai, Koshi, Kamala, Bagmati, Narayani and its tributaries will increase. Similarly, the flow in all the rivers flowing from Provinces No. 1 and 2, Bagmati and its adjoining Chure and Terai is likely to cross the alert level and reach dangerous level in some places.

The department has also urged to take precaution. Similarly, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority has also requested to take precautionary measures to prevent possible risks. According to NEA Chief Executive Officer Anil Pokharel, the monsoon-based early warning system has been adopted. 

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has urged to take precaution as there is a possibility of heavy rain in Bagmati, Province 5 and some parts of Gandaki today. Even though it is still raining in these places, it is likely to stop in the afternoon and heavy rain in the evening, said meteorologist Barun Poudel. According to him, the sun continues to shine and the clouds continue to fall throughout the day.

Elsewhere, light to moderate rain is expected throughout the day. The department has also requested to take precaution as there is a risk of landslides in the hilly areas that have been raining since last night and flooding in the Terai and in places where water is not well drained.
