Eight workers were buried in a landslide in Melamchi, one was rescued and the rest are still not.

Kathmandu: Eight workers have been buried in Melamchi due to landslide caused by incessant rains since last night.

Mayor of Melamchi Municipality Dambar Aryal informed that the landslide occurred near the peopleboat of Melamchi Bazaar in Ward No. 11 of Melamchi Municipality on Monday night.

The missing persons include Rajendra Chaurasia, 42, Pradip Chaurasia, 35, Vikram Thing, 25, Man Bahadur Rumba, 23, Simon Ghalan, 20, Shivbalak Dhami, 21, Sonam Lama, 17, and Rajendra Chaudhary, an Indian national. 

              

Indian national Baru Shah has been rescued and is undergoing treatment at Melamchi Primary Health Center, police said.

Mayor Aryal informed that eight of the workers living in the curb hall under construction in Melamchi Municipality have gone missing after being buried in the landslide. According to the police, the workers working in the curb hall are half full.

One of the victims has been rescued, said Fal Bahadur Tamang, Inspector at the Area Police Office, Melamchi. Nepal Army, police and locals have been deployed at the site to rescue the missing.
