Kathmandu: The Nepal Army is celebrating Mahashivaratri and Army Day with various programs across the country.

President Bhidyadevi Bhandari will be the chief guest at a special function to be organized at Sainik Manch Tundikhel on the occasion of Shivaratri and Army Day. 

The Nepal Army has been celebrating Mahashivaratri as Army Day for two decades now. Various cultural programs including a parade (weapons exercise) and an artillery raising, parade will be conducted in the military forum.

During the ceremony, the President will introduce the history of Nepal's unification, Nepal's historical forts, forts, and battlefields, and the Sepoy Annual 2077, as well as distribute prizes to the first and second place winners in the 'Free-Fall Jump'.

According to Army Spokesperson Santosh Vallabh Poudel, the main function will be held at Sainik Manch, Tundikhel and all the offices, departments, formations, paramilitaries, forces, units, and sub-units across the country will celebrate Army Day with grandeur.

During the ceremony, the parade with rifle and cannon, march past from various units including players of Tribhuvan Army Club and cadets of the national service team, display of armored vehicles, weapons and equipment, display of band, display of the national flag of Nepal from helicopters and banner of Army Day 2077 will be showered.

In Kathmandu, the number of army personnel participating in the Mahashivaratri and Army Day programs in Kathmandu last year was reduced to 3,400 this year due to Kovid-19.

There will also be a display of various activities related to road construction projects of national pride, national parks and wildlife reservation, and participation in the establishment of world peace and disaster management.

Chief of Army Staff Purnachandra Thapa is currently the chief of the Nepal Army. Attractive military art free-fruit jump and khukuri drill will be displayed.

On the occasion of Army Day, there is a program to honor the best performing farmers with the help of a loan from the welfare fund, the best army farmer honor, the best entrepreneur honoring the army chief microfinance entrepreneur honor, and the best ex-serviceman honor.

After the main ceremony, the Chief of Army Staff will present a trophy and an award to the unit that achieves excellent results in Nature Conservation, War Work, and Professional Inspection 2077 BS.

On the occasion of Army Day, the units under Jangiadda will celebrate Diwali, lay wreaths, and pay homage at the Veer Smarak in honor of the veterans, invite single women and veterans of the veterans and conduct various programs. Friendly games are being played.

The Nepal Army has been doing exemplary and record work in different periods of history for the protection of Nepal's independence, geographical integrity, and sovereignty.

The organizational structure of the present army dates back to 1819 BS. The Army has succeeded in leaving an indelible mark of faith and trust among the citizens through its glorious work of patriotism, dedication, and the focus on the interests of the common Nepali.

Nepal has been established on the basis of the indomitable courage, bravery, and sacrifice of the military heroes. Maintaining national unity falls within the constitutional responsibility of the Nepal Army.

Discipline in the army, chain of command, and non-political character, the spirit of unity is high culture.

The Nepal Army has succeeded in creating the image of a reliable and trustworthy army not only in the country but also in the international arena. In terms of inclusion, the organization of the Nepal Army is now like a flower garden of 'four castes, thirty-six castes'. Women's participation is also increasing significantly.

At the call of the United Nations, the incomparable contribution made by the Nepal Army for the establishment of peace in various conflict-affected countries of the world has been freely appreciated from the national and international arena.

The Nepal Army's participation in the United Nations peacekeeping mission began in 1958. So far, 43 peacekeepers have contributed 135,041 troops to world peace.

In some conflict-ridden countries of the world, 68 Nepali soldiers have lost their lives and 66 others have been seriously injured.

There are currently 5,139,000 Nepali peacekeepers, including 87 women, in 12 peacekeeping missions around the world. Nepal ranks fourth in the list of countries deploying troops for peacekeeping.

Nepal has committed to sending 10,000 peacekeepers to the United Nations at a time if needed.

Nepal is becoming a school to enhance professionalism and efficiency even for the soldiers of the most powerful countries in the world.

This is confirmed by military participants from many countries around the world at the Birendra Peacekeeping Training Center, Bhaktapur Kharipati-based Military School, and Shivpuri-based Army Command and Staff College.

Among the conflict-affected people of any continent in the world, the Nepal Army has been the first choice as a peacekeeping force.

The army has recently succeeded in establishing a reliable image in disaster management and road construction in the country. The Kathmandu-Terai Madhes Expressway of national pride is becoming common under the management of the army.

Responsibility for the protection and development of palaces, museums, structures of historical significance, powerhouses, physical infrastructure, and natural resources is strengthening the relationship with the military-civilians.
