Dhangadhi: Far-Western MP Devaki Malla has said that cannabis cultivation should be given legitimacy. Speaking at a meeting of the Far-Western Provincial Assembly, Debaki Malla, an MP from the ruling UCPN (Maoist) demanded that legalization should be given to cannabis cultivation in the Far-Western region.
During the discussion on the policy and program presented by the government, MP Malla said, "Cannabis cultivation is necessary for income and livelihood." She said, "How can cannabis cultivation, which is very important for the Far West and Bajhang, be legalized? The state government should take initiative with the central government if necessary."
In the far west, cannabis cultivation is practiced everywhere. Especially in some parts of Bajhang and Bajura, cannabis is traditionally grown in large quantities. He is a directly elected MP from the Maoist center in Bajhang.
Cannabis cultivation has been banned since Nepal enacted a law on drug control in 1976. According to the law, the cultivation, storage, consumption, and sale of cannabis are an illegal and punishable offense. Those who cultivate more than that can be imprisoned for up to three years and fined Rs 5,000. But in some rural areas, cannabis is being cultivated.
