Assassination of the President of Haiti
MEXICO CITY: Unidentified gunmen have shot dead Haitian President Jovenal Moises. Moiz's wife was injured in the incident at a private residence in the capital Port-au-Prince. Interim Prime Minister Claude Joseph confirmed in a statement on Wednesday that President Moiz had been assassinated. Moiz has ruled Haiti, the poorest country in Africa, through various directives, using presidential powers after the 2018 legislative elections were delayed.
As his term drew to a close, the controversy was raging. He was also found guilty in this. Haiti's constitutional referendum scheduled for April has been postponed due to the Covid-19 epidemic. The National Election Commission had announced that the referendum would be held on September 26 this year. - BBC
