Prime Minister Deuba will take a vote of confidence today

Kathmandu: Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba is scheduled to take a vote of confidence today. He is preparing to take a vote of confidence in the first sitting of the reconstituted House of Representatives today. 

The motion for a vote of confidence has been registered by the Law Minister in the Parliament Secretariat through the Speaker. In the second meeting of the House of Representatives to be held today, the Prime Minister will take a vote of confidence in accordance with the constitution, according to the secretariat.

There are 61 MPs from the ruling Congress, 49 from the UCPN (Maoist), 17 from the JSP, and 17 from the Rastriya Janamorcha. 

Out of 136 votes required to get a vote of confidence, Deuba does not get 8 votes. Twenty-six UML lawmakers, who supported Deuba in his bid for the PM's job, are likely to vote for him. 

Deuba, who was appointed prime minister on Tuesday following a Supreme Court order, has a constitutional provision requiring a vote of confidence within 30 days.
