Attack on Hindu minority in Bangladesh: temple, house and shop vandalized, three killed

Violence over a Facebook post in Bangladesh has led to vandalism of Hindu shrines and attacks on the Hindu minority.

Violence erupted after rumors of desecration of the Quran spread at a Durga shrine in Bangladesh's Comilla district, local media reported.

Security has been beefed up in the area following the violence. Three people were killed in the violence, according to police. Two are seriously injured.

According to police, several Hindu temples, houses, and shops have been vandalized. Police have arrested some people on the charge of being involved in vandalism. This is the first time communal violence has erupted in the region.

According to the 2011 census, there are about 8.5 percent Hindus in Bangladesh. Bangladesh's home minister has said he took the incident seriously.
