Nirmala's mother says: There is no hope of getting justice now

Mahendranagar:  It has been two years since the murder of Nirmala Pant, a 13-year-old girl of Ultakham in Kanchanpur Bhim Dutt Municipality-2. Nirmala Pant was killed after being raped on July 26, 2008. In the two years since the murder, many investigative teams have changed, but the police have not been able to find out the truth.

"I have no hope of getting justice now. More pain has been added to the pain," said Durgadevi Pant, Nirmala's mother. Many movements were investigated. There is no hope of getting justice now. She said that she had filed a FIR against Dilip Bista on the basis of suspicion. She said that since she had given the kitani, it was the job of the police to find out the truth and bring the culprit to the dock.

In the Nirmala case, which has become a topic of discussion nationally and internationally, the police have not been able to achieve anything in the last two years. Police said that they are still investigating the incident. Chief of the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, Mukunda Marasini said that the incident has not been resolved yet but an investigation is underway.

"There have been some setbacks in the Nirmala case from the beginning, which has led to delays," Marasini said. "We are investigating the Nirmala incident as our first priority." He said that the organization was concerned over the incident and that an investigation was underway to reach a conclusion. 

Just a few days ago, Far-Western Police Chief DIG Uttam Raj Subedi also reached the District Police Office, Kanchanpur and studied Nirmala's file for three hours. According to police sources, police officers are trying to find a way out of the Nirmala case.

Her body was found in Ukhubari on July 26, 2008 after she was raped and murdered. A month after the incident, the agitation broke out in Kanchanpur on August 19 after the District Police Office made public the mentally ill Dilip Bista of Bhimdatta Municipality-19 Bagphata. During the agitation, Shani Khunna of Bhimdatta Municipality-18 was martyred. 

Bista, who was made public a few weeks after his arrest, was released on a common date from the public prosecutor's office after his dean was not found. After the DNA test was found to be erroneous, the needle of suspicion is again on the previously publicized Bista as the police are proceeding with the investigation based on the circumstantial evidence.

The report submitted to the ministry by the government after an on-site study by an investigation committee comprising DIGs and high-ranking government officials under the coordination of Home Ministry Joint Secretary Hari Prasad Mainali has remained unaccounted for. Apart from the Mainali Committee, separate reports have been prepared on the Nirmala case under the leadership of the National Human Rights Commission, Human Rights Organization and the then DIG of the Police Headquarters, Dhiru Basnyat.

6 Investigation Officer returned 

The Deputy Superintendent of Police, who is the investigating officer of the incident from the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, has seen a lot of changes in a short period of time. Initially, the then Inspector of Police (now suspended) of the District Police Office, Ekendra Khadka, was appointed as the investigating officer of the incident. 

Seven policemen, including Investigation Officer Khadka, were suspended after agitation broke out demanding justice for Nimarla. The then Chief Superintendent of Police Dilliraj Bista of the then District Police Office Kanchanpur and the then Ward Police Chief Inspector Jagdish Bhatt were sacked by the Home Ministry a few months after the incident.

Five years after the Nirmala case, five investigating officers have been transferred from the District Police Office, Kanchanpur. After the initial investigation officer Khadka was suspended, Deputy Superintendent of Police Krishna Raj Ojha, who was leading the investigation into the Nirmala case, was transferred to another place within a few months. Deputy Superintendent of Police Gyan Bahadur Bista, who reached the District Police Office, Kanchanpur after her transfer, was also transferred to the Area Police Office, Attariya Kaj while studying the file of Nirmala's case.

According to the District Police Office, Kanchanpur, Deputy Superintendent of Police Ganesh Bam, who was leading the investigation into the Nirmala case, was transferred to Kanchanpur for a short time. After the transfer of the bomb, the investigation officer of the incident, Deputy Superintendent of Police Narendra Chand, was also arrested within a few months of his arrival in the district. 

After that, Deputy Superintendent of Police Rabindra Poudel, who reached Kanchanpur to investigate the Nirmala case, was also started within four months. Amar Bahadur Thapa is currently leading the investigation. Apart from this, Durga Singh of the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) had been stationed in Kanchanpur for a long time. Even though the current IGP Thakur Gyawali has reached Kanchanpur to investigate the Nirmala murder case, the police have not had any success.
