Mother and baby rhino found dead in Chitwan National Park

A mother and her baby rhino have been found dead in the western part of Chitwan National Park. The rhino's mother and baby were found dead at a place called Laukhani of the park, said Ashok Ram, information officer and assistant conservation officer of the park.

A Nepal Army team deployed to protect the park found the mother and baby of the rhino dead on Wednesday afternoon, he said. Information Officer Ram said that it was suspected that the smuggler may have killed the female rhino horn as no horns were found. According to him, the rhinoceros found dead last August and the rhinoceros found dead on Wednesday have the same nature of death.

Eleven rhinos have died in Chitwan this fiscal year alone. Nine rhinos have died over time, according to the park. According to the 2015 rhino census, there are 645 rhinos in Nepal, including 605 in Chitwan National Park.
