Indian Army Chief Narwane arrives in Kathmandu

Kathmandu, 19 Kartik:- Chief of Army Staff General Manoj Mukunda Narwane has arrived here today for a three-day visit to Nepal at the formal invitation of Chief of Army Staff Purnachandra Thapa. Authorized Rathi Prabhuram Sharma greeted him at the Tribhuvan International Airport, said Army Spokesperson Santosh Ballabh Poudel.



He is here to receive the honorary title of Maharathi of the Nepal Army as per the tradition of conferring honorary Maharathi status on the Chiefs of Army of each other between the Nepal Army and the Indian Army. President Vidyadevi Bhandari will confer the honorary rank of Maharathi on General Narwane on Thursday. On the same occasion, he will have a meeting with the President.

General Narawane is the 18th Army Chief of Staff to receive the honorary title from Nepal. The Nepal Army has informed that the main purpose of the visit of Army Chief Narawane is to continue the tradition.

Chief of Army Staff Narawane will pay homage at the Veerasmarak at Sainik Manch Tundikhel on Thursday morning. After that, he is scheduled to inspect the army guard at the army headquarters. After that, Chief of Army Staff Thapa will have a formal meeting with his counterpart General Narawane.

On the same occasion, Army Chief Narawane will hand over medical supplies to the Nepal Army as per the agreement reached at the 13th meeting on security cooperation exchange between the two countries. A dinner will be organized in his honor at Jangi Adda tomorrow. Chief of Army Staff Narawane will have a formal meeting with Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Friday.
