Every time a dispute arises on the border of Nepal, every Nepali's mind gets cold. The chill of the 'Sugauli Treaty' of December 2, 1815, is deepening in the minds of Nepalis over time.
The British, who ruled India as a colony, took ownership of much land from Nepal. In 1947, India became completely independent from the British colony, but Nepal did not get its land back. On the contrary, the Nepali role, which was merged with India through the treaty, began to attack the people and the Nepali culture.
It was at this time that young people, including musicians Amber Gurung and Agam Singh Giri, protested against the attack, through song and music. The song was recorded at Hindustan Record, Calcutta, 'The star of the earth laughed when nine hundred thousand stars rose.'
The song was banned from airing by All India Radio. His collaboration with Agam Singh was ongoing. The song written at the same time is, ‘सुगौलि सन्धि हामीले बिर्सेको छैनौ भनिदेऊ।’
But this song was never recorded. He was fighting for the Nepali language and culture. He did not give up his empowerment through the Geeti Abhiyan. He then came to Nepal at the invitation of the then King Shri 5 Mahendra Vir Bikram Shahdev and did not return to Darjeeling.
Mainali says, "He suffered a lot in India and when he came to Nepal, he was a little frustrated because the political leadership of Nepal was not aware of his nationality. He used to say, 'I have suffered before.
According to Mainali, Gurung had recorded the song only after many requests. This is history, it was recorded by persuasion to keep it on record.
That too in two conditions,
1. 'Don't play until I'm alive,
2. I'll say something in the middle of the song. '

But, why didn't Amber want to play this song while she was alive?
In the middle of the recorded song now available, one hears, 'What do you understand?' Perhaps Amber thought that the leaders did not understand the meaning of this song. The pain of being an immigrant, the pain of being treated like a stranger in one's own land, the pain of trying to usurp one's own culture and language.
'Amber Gurung is a conscious creator, he was very conscious of nationality, society, and art. Patriotism was evident in his songs, 'says Mainali.' There is a historical reason for this. He has not created as much patriotism as other creators in Nepal and can not.
According to Mainali, Gopal Yonjan and Amber Gurung have established that songs about the nation are popular. They instilled patriotic songs in the minds of Nepalis.
But even after making such revolutionary songs, Gurung's devotion to the nation seemed low and he was frustrated.
Musician Abhas says, 'Those who came from outside Nepal had different nationalism than those who lived in Nepal. He came from a society that was suffering from the loss of nationality and land. That feeling can also be found in the creation of Gopal Yonjan. '
Even though he lost his land, Amber came to Nepal as his country. Abhas says, "After the signing of the treaty Nepal, the meaning of this song may have changed, but I don't know why you should not play the song on the radio.
Abhas also shared the stage when Amber sang this recorded song that we can now hear on YouTube. Pravin Gurung was on guitar and Achutaram Bhandari was on tabla.
The people of Darjeeling are 'technically' Indian but historically Nepali. Lipulek, Kalapani issue is now digging into what Nepal was like and what were the territories of Nepal. Abhas says, 'Few people know that there was Nepal in the new generation from Kangra to Tista. Those who have lost that land are emotionally attached, they have the same language and culture. '
After coming here, Amber has expressed her feelings through art. The work of art is the same. "The names of Amber Gurung and Gopal Yonjan appear in the national anthem because they understand the history of the pain of losing that nation." According to him, for some time now, there has been a trend of artists avoiding controversial issues. Artists who worked during the Panchayat period also had a tendency to stay away from politics.
When Nepal was blockaded by India when Marichman Singh was the Prime Minister of Nepal, Natikaji and Amber Gurung formed a committee and persuaded people all over the country to sing Nepali songs. If Amber had remained even now, some compositions would have been made.
Kishor Gurung, Amber Gurung's son, told Amber that he may have thought that 'this is a political issue and relations between the two countries should not deteriorate'. Gurung says, “There is a movement from time to time in Darjeeling for a separate identity from India. In the past, we had to face some problems. Amar passed away at the age of 79 on Jestha 25, 2073 BS due to digestive system problems. He was born in Darjeeling, Gurung's Pukhyauli village in Gorkha district. He came to Nepal from Darjeeling in 2026 BS.
