Man arrested for creating Facebook page called 'Rapist Association'

Kathmandu: Police have arrested a person who formed a rapist association on social network Facebook.


The Cyber ​​Bureau of Nepal Police has arrested Navin Basnet for creating a page and group called Rape Organization on social network Facebook. According to Bureau spokesperson Senior Superintendent of Police Navinda Aryal, the arrested Basnet is a permanent resident of Jhindruk Village Municipality-7 of Pyuthan. He had been living in Kawasoti Municipality of Nawalparasi recently.

According to Aryal, 19-year-old Basnet has been arrested by the police and is being brought to Kathmandu for further investigation. A warrant was issued against him in Kathmandu. Police from Nawalparasi and Bardaghat Susta East had assisted in arresting Basnet.

According to the police, the Facebook page and group called Rape Organization was set up on social network Facebook to incite people to commit heinous acts like rape, insult and harass women, post content against social harmony and etiquette and react.

According to the Ministry of Home Affairs, seven rape complaints have been registered daily in Nepal recently. After the rape and murder of Samjhana Kami, a girl from Bajhang, there was a recent demand for the death penalty for the rapist. Demonstrations were held in various cities of the country including Kathmandu demanding strict action against the rapists.
