A powerful typhoon has killed at least 10 people in the Philippines
KATHMANDU - In the Philippines, 10 people have been killed because of the powerful storm.
More than 347,000 people have been rescued and taken to safety. Houses and buildings have collapsed. It is considered to be the biggest typhoon of the year. The BBC reports that there was wind and heavy rain at a speed of 225 kilometers per hour.
Meteorologists have warned that even though the storm is gradually weakening, there may be more storms and rains. The Philippines said one million people needed to be rescued before the storm hit. But rescuers say rescue efforts are being hampered by the risk of contracting the corona virus.
Goni is the strongest typhoon for the Philippines since Typhoon Haiyan in 2013. Typhoon Haiyan killed more than 6,000 people in the Philippines.
