No kind of gender based violence and discrimination is acceptable: Prime Minister Oli

Kathmandu: Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has said that the government will not tolerate any kind of gender-based violence and discrimination. Giving a message for the 16-day campaign against gender-based violence, she said the government was taking the lead in building a prosperous society and securing the rights of women by raising the living standards of women by making maximum use of the resources and means available to the state. 

"I call on every individual, family, society, and all concerned bodies to be sensitive and proactive in protecting and promoting the human rights of victims of gender-based violence with a view to ending all forms of gender-based violence," he said in a statement. We have to build a civilized and cultured foundation while protecting it from the negative effects of gender-based violence. We need to be aware of the negative image created by some wrong practices and tragic events and eliminate all the factors that cause violence. '

Stating that the constitution has adopted the principle of equality in all areas including gender, Prime Minister Oli clarified that the government has adopted a zero-tolerance policy on all forms of violence against women. Implementing the obligations of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights 1948, the Convention on Political and Civil Rights 1966 and the Convention on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights 1966 and the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women, 1979 He mentioned that it was made by the government. 

He urged the governments at all three levels to move ahead with the legal and institutional arrangements against gender-based violence in a sensitive and important manner as per the federal structure. He said that social campaigns are needed to create awareness in the minds of the people as the legal system alone cannot end the incidents of gender-based violence. "I urge all individuals, families, societies, and all concerned bodies to be sensitive in protecting the human rights of victims of sexual violence and ending gender-based violence," he said in a statement. 

Stating that Nepal has made remarkable achievements in the field of gender equality and women's rights in the implementation phase of the constitution, she informed that more than 14,600 women have been elected at various levels through the three-tier election of 2074 BS. "Women's participation in the political structure has reached 41 percent at the local level, 34.5 percent at the state level, and 33.5 percent at the federal level. Our achievements have been inspiring for the developed countries of South Asia and the world, ”the message said. They have become carriers of change. Despite this, the incidence of gender-based violence has not been reduced as expected.

Stating that heinous crimes such as untouchability, trafficking, exploitation of labor, accusations of witchcraft, sexual abuse, rape, murder, and acid attack in the name of Chhau are a disgrace to human civilization, Prime Minister Oli stressed the need to launch a meaningful campaign against such violence.
