Increase in paddy production in Palpa
Rampur: The production of paddy in Palpa has increased by seven metric tonnes as compared to the previous year. The production of paddy in the district has increased by 40,896 metric tonnes this year, said Mukesh Ramjali, information officer at the Agriculture Knowledge Center, Palpa. Paddy, the second crop of the district, has been planted in an area of 9,223 hectares this year. Last year, paddy was planted in only 88 percent of the total land area, but this year, 96 percent of the area has been planted. According to Gyan Kendra, 33,896 metric tonnes of paddy was produced here last year.
Farmers of Palpa are excited after the increase in paddy production. Farmer Bhagwati Pandey says that the production of paddy has increased this year as compared to the previous year due to timely rains. "After planting paddy, the field would be disturbed without getting green. This time, it was easier to sow and there was enough water for irrigation," he said. Farmers who had faced many problems in the previous year due to not being able to irrigate by planting paddy are happy with the increase in production this year. Farmer Sita Bhusal said that she was able to take care of the paddy easily after it rained while irrigating the field.
Shiva Prasad Aryal, head of the Agriculture Knowledge Center, Palpa, says that the production of paddy has increased due to the hybrid, improved variety of paddy, timely rains, use of modern technology, and the presence of young manpower in the village this year. Areas including Rampur, Madiphant, Dobhan, Argali, and Hungi of the district have pocket areas for paddy production. Farmers have planted Hybrid, Savitri, Gorakhnath, US 312, and other paddies. Paddy production has also improved in Tarikhet due to timely rains this year.
30 thousand 265 metric tons in FY 2071/72, 33 thousand 896 metric tons in 2072/73, 35 thousand 82 metric tons in 2073/74, and 36 thousand 485 metric tons in FY 2074/75. Looking at the statistics of the last year's period, it has been found that paddy has increased the most this year. Paddy produced in the district is scarce to eat here and is imported from the neighboring district of Rupendehi. Due to the low level of plains and many hilly terrains in the district, paddy cultivation is practiced in a small area. Farmers have become self-sufficient in other crops like wheat, maize, seasonal and non-seasonal vegetables even though the paddy produced in the district is not enough to eat. The production area has started to decrease due to the construction of houses on the flat land
