'World could be hit by more deadly virus than corona virus': WHO
Dr. Mike Ryan, head of the WHO's emergency project, said the epidemic had woken up the world. The coronavirus has killed more than 1.8 million people worldwide. Earlier, the Spanish flu was considered the deadliest pandemic in the world, killing 50 million people in one year.
Speaking to the media, Dr. Ryan said that the epidemic is very serious and has an impact on every corner of the globe, but it does not have to be the biggest.
He said, 'It's time to wake up. Now we are learning how to improve in science, logistics, training and administration, how to improve communication, but our planet is fragile. We live in a complex global society and it is in danger. We need to learn how tragedy can work together. We must do good deeds and respect what we have lost, he added.
"Vaccines have been introduced in the United States and Europe, but the virus is likely to be a part of our lives," Ryan said. He said it would remain a dangerous virus but its risk would be reduced. It remains to be seen to what extent it can be eradicated by the use of vaccines.
He said that although the vaccine is very effective, there is no guarantee that it will completely eradicate the virus and the diseases caused by it. So, first of all, people who are most at risk are vaccinated.
