The Suez Canal reopened six days later

Cairo: The world's busiest trade waterway, which was blocked after a cargo ship got stuck in Egypt's Suez Canal, has reopened on Monday. The huge ship, which has been stranded since last Tuesday, has been shifted to the bank of the canal, officials said.

According to the international media, the surface of the ship named 'Ever Given' was pulled towards the bank of the canal. Fourteen large boats were used to clear the waterway by removing the Evergreen Company-owned ship. The ship was safely evacuated after a six-day effort.

The waterway connecting Asia and Europe came to a standstill on Tuesday after a cargo ship about 400 meters long and 59 meters wide capsized. More than 369 ships were stranded after the Panama-registered Evergreen Shipping Company's 'Ever Given' blocked the route. Osama Ravi, chairman of the Suez Canal Authority, said ships would ply the route immediately. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi has thanked workers for paving the way, saying "continuous efforts have ended the crisis."

Earlier, he had instructed to remove 18,300 containers from the ship if necessary. But the way was opened without removing the containers from the ship.

According to officials, the giant ship floated in the canal due to a sudden gust of wind. The canal, which was completed in 1969 after ten years, is 193.3 km long. The shortest waterway between Asia and Europe accounts for 12 percent of the world's trade. The 224,000-tonne ship built in 2018 covered almost the entire width of the canal.

It is seen as the most expensive traffic jam in the world. Last year, 5.2 million barrels of oil and 3.3 million tons of goods were transported daily through this route. According to Reuters, trade worth ६ 6 billion to अर्ब 10 billion a year has been cut off since the canal was closed. According to Reuters, at least 369 ships are stranded due to this. In 2020 alone, 19,000 ships passed through the Suez Canal. Last year, an average of 52 ships passed through the canal daily. The Cape of Good Hope route in Africa can be used as an alternative, but it takes more than two weeks to transport goods.

The price of crude oil had gone up in the market after the road was blocked due to ships. But oil prices fell slightly on Monday, according to Reuters. Although Egypt has opened an old waterway for ships, it has not been able to carry the cargo from the area, which has caused problems in transporting goods.

The Dutch company Boscalis extracted sand and mud from the vicinity of the ship, making it possible to remove the ship. Peter Berdowski, the company's chief executive, said the weight of the ship had made it difficult to extract sand and soil but had succeeded. Earlier, US President Joe Biden's administration said the United States was ready to provide "necessary assistance" to clear the way.

China and the United Arab Emirates have also expressed readiness to provide necessary assistance. The Japanese shipping company has apologized for the obstruction of the trade route and apologized for the inconvenience caused by the shipwreck and the planned inconvenience. The company said all crew members were safe and there was no fuel leakage from the ship. The 25 crew members are all Indians.
