KATHMANDU: At least 25 people, including a senior police officer, have been killed in a clash between a gang of drug traffickers and police in Brazil.
Police in Rio de Janeiro launched an operation after a gang of drug traffickers reportedly recruited and trafficked children.
The smugglers used sophisticated weapons on the police during the operation. According to the BBC, more than 20 smugglers were killed when police opened fire and jumped from the roof of the house. A senior police officer was also killed in the incident.
Police said that they have received sophisticated weapons and important information from some of the arrested persons. Two metro trains were also stranded between the two sides, but passengers were safe. Rio de Janeiro is home to a large gang involved in drug trafficking, human trafficking, and murder.
Although the police have been conducting operations against the smugglers since 2016, the crime has not been brought under control.
