The water level rises in Koshi, 500 houses in Saptari inundated
Rajbiraj: The water level in the Koshi River, which has been rising due to continuous rains for the past few days, has been measured on Saturday morning. According to the measurements taken at 9 am on Saturday, the Koshi Barrage has a flow of 231,515 cusecs of water.
Earlier, more than 155,775 cusecs of water were measured at 12 o'clock on Friday night, according to the control room at the barrage. As the flow of water in the river is increasing, 28 out of 56 gates of Koshi Barrage have been opened and water has been drained. The local administration has informed the residents of the surrounding areas to be vigilant as the flow of water in the river is increasing. A red light has been lit at the barrage as the water level is rising.
Due to the continuous rains in the high mountainous and hilly areas, the water level in the tributary river and the river has increased by 24,995 cusecs on Friday night. The water level is expected to rise further as the rains continue. More than 500 houses in different municipalities of Saptari have been inundated due to continuous rains. More than 300 houses in Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality have been inundated due to the lack of drainage and seepage of the Saptakoshi River.
Mayor Shailesh Kumar Sah informed that about 300 houses in wards 9, 10, 11, and 12 of the municipality have been inundated. Similarly, about 200 houses in wards 1, 2, 3, and 4 of Saptakoshi Municipality of Saptari have been inundated due to flooding of Triyuga, Amha, Tangra, Gangajali, and Satrapatra rivers, said Mayor Uttam Gautam. According to him, the Triyuga River is cutting embankments in Siddhipur of Ward No. 2 and Sakhuwani of Ward No. 3.
