Xi Jinping vows to fulfil Taiwan ‘reunification’ with China by peaceful means
Kathmandu: Chinese President Xi Jinping has said that integration with Taiwan should be completed. According to the BBC, President Xi has called for peaceful unification.
Stating that there is a tradition of Chinese citizens to oppose partition, he stressed unification. Reacting to President Xi's remarks, the Taiwanese President's Office said that the future of Taiwan is in the hands of its citizens.
Taiwan considers itself a sovereign country while China sees Taiwan as a separate province. President Xi's remarks came after more than 150 Chinese military planes flew over Taiwan over the past week. Chinese President Xi Jinping has said he wants peaceful integration with Taiwan under the one-country-two system. Taiwan has called on China to stop infiltration, harassment, and provocative measures. China and Taiwan were divided during the civil war in the 1940s.
